We'd Love To Care For Your Ring
Wood Ring Refinishing & Repair Instructions
Since we began creating our rings in 2012, we’ve proudly offered free refinishing as part of our Lifetime Care promise.
Below you’ll find detailed shipping instructions based on your location.
If your ring may need more than basic refinishing, it’s a good idea to send us a photo first. We’ll happily take a look and let you know what’s possible — that way, you can avoid the cost of shipping if a repair isn’t feasible or if an upgrade might be a better fit.
Please Note:This service is for Northwood created rings only.
Shipping Instructions
From Within Canada
If you’re located in Canada, please follow the instructions below to ensure your ring arrives safely and without delays.
Recommended Shipping Method
We suggest using Canada Post Xpresspost, as it includes tracking and a reasonable delivery time. It’s reliable, and ideal for shipping to our location in Nova Scotia.
Tracking & Insurance:
Canada Post insures jewelry up to $500 CAD. If your ring is worth more than that, you may choose to use a courier service such as FedEx or Purolator within Canada only to access higher insurance limits.
Important Notes
Do not write “jewelry” on the outside of the package.
Address the parcel to NCJ (use initials only to help avoid theft in transit).
Use a medium-sized box — large enough to avoid getting lost, but small enough to avoid oversized shipping charges. We typically use boxes around 6" × 4" × 3".
Shipping Address:
NCJ
622 King Street
Bridgewater, Nova Scotia

Canada
What to Include in Your Package:
- Your securely packed ring
- Please include an insert with your clearly printed name, return address, contact details, and your original order number (or the name the order was placed under).
- You’re also welcome to include any notes about care, repairs, or specific concerns so we can better assist you.
Once your ring arrives, we’ll contact you to confirm that we have received it, what work will be done, and
From the United States
Step 1: Choose the Right Shipping Method
Use: United States Postal Service (USPS)
We strongly recommend shipping your ring to us using USPS rather than courier services like FedEx, UPS, or DHL. These couriers often apply unexpected brokerage and customs fees, even for items sent as returns or repairs.
Packages sent by courier where duties or fees are marked as the receiver’s responsibility will be refused. These charges often arrive weeks or even months later and cannot be waived or reversed. If you do choose to use a courier service, you must ensure that all duties, customs, and brokerage fees are paid in full by you, the sender, at the time of shipment. Northwood Custom Jewelry is not responsible for covering any courier-related charges.
Recommended USPS Services:
- Priority Mail International (balanced option with tracking)
- Registered Mail (slower, but allows full-value jewelry insurance)
Avoid: Couriers like FedEx or UPS, which frequently charge $50–$100+ in customs brokerage fees even for returned items.
Step 2: Fill Out the USPS Customs Form
You’ll need to complete a customs form when sending to Canada (available online or at your local post office). To help avoid unnecessary customs fees or delays, use the following details:
- Description of Contents: Canadian Made Jewelry (ring) – Temporary Export for Repair – No Commercial Value
- Quantity: 1
- Value: The insured replacement value (see Step 3)
- HS Tariff Code: 9801.00.1012
- Type of Goods: Returned Goods / Temporary Export for Repair
- Country of Origin: United States
- Delivery Address: NCJ, 622 King Street, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, B4V 1B4, Canada
Please use “NCJ” instead of “Northwood Custom Jewelry” and avoid mentioning “jewelry” on the external label for security purposes.
Step 3: Packing and Insurance
- Pack your ring securely. Tip: Use a medium-sized box — large enough not to get lost, but small enough to avoid extra shipping costs. Ours are usually around 6" × 4" × 3".
- Please include an insert with your clearly printed name, return address, contact details, and your original order number (or the name the order was placed under).
- You’re also welcome to include any notes about care, repairs, or specific concerns so we can better assist you.
- Ensure the package includes tracking and insurance.
- We recommend insuring your ring for an amount that reflects its replacement value — typically between 50% and 75% of the original purchase price.
- Optionally, you can include your original order receipt in the box - if customs does open to inspect, this may help to speed the process.
If something were to happen in transit, we would do our best to remake your ring within the declared insured value.
For full-value jewelry insurance, Registered Mail is the best USPS option. You may also consider third-party insurance options or check with your own insurance.
Step 4: What Happens Next
Once we receive your ring, we’ll assess its condition and reach out to confirm the work needed. Most refinishing includes a fresh protective coat and polish, and we’ll do our best to smooth out nicks or dents as part of our Lifetime Care. If any extra repair work is needed, we’ll let you know before proceeding.
